Wealthy (dy)nasty

Only in poll season are politicians compelled to enumerate their wealth.

Only in poll season are politicians compelled to enumerate their wealth. Going by the disclosures all over India, what is immediately apparent is their wealth seems to have suffered from the twin whammy of demonetisation and GST that many suffered. The one conclusion to be drawn straightway from a comparison of the wealth of politicians from five years ago to now is politics is indeed the best business, and inflation and vicissitude-proof.

Entrenched career politicians find their avocation so comfortable they have no hesitation in grooming their children if they so desire. And since dynasties spell privilege and a silver spoon kind of initiation and entry for younger generations, dynasties are not exactly popular.

Twittearti seemed quite annoyed by one prominent Congress family in particular, which is that of the Natukottai Chettiar P. Chidambaram and his son Karti as they seemed to take delight in studying the assets declaration of the son who has succeeded father as the Sivaganga candidate. The family's loans to each other came in for sharp comment too.

The Deve Gowda clan also came in for nasty comments on dynasties. Some pertinent observations were visible amid the angst like the one about offences of the elite going unpunished while the authorities come down like a ton of bricks on a salaried person or a clerk accepting a small bribe only to be trapped by government agencies.

Queries have been raised on quite a few asset declarations around the country but, curiously, there are never any explanations forthcoming. Such silence is also part of the flavour of Indian democracy.

Just reading Karti's Election Affidavit....35 pages...some foreign properties & bank accounts disclosed..Interesting is they loan each other...son to mother..daughter in law to father in law...wife to sister..father to daughter ..Great Loan Mela going on inside family

M. S. Srinivasa Rao @macharajarao
We can see the extent of manipulation P C can indulge in. If this is how he is hoodwinking the Govt/ECI/IT/ED/CBI, just imagine what he must have been doing as Home Minister & Finance Minister. Eg. Ishrat Jahan/Aircel
Max Saffron Terror!

CITIZEN OF THE INDIA@k72_t
Why he is outside the jail, even though there is BJP gov. Is it now good to say chaukidar are helping others to do scams? What good to write chaukidar before our name if the big chaukidaars are involved and helping ppl to do scams and distribute

Jim Nordic@JimNordic
@PChidambaram_IN has to be in practice if managing economy. So he created a small economic zone called the chiddu/veshti zone. Loans will remain inside, and he will not lose touch.

@PuriVirender
There's news that #KartiChidambaram is joining politics & will try his luck #LestWeForget that Karti is facing inquiry by ED Other day #RobertVadra dynasty's Jijaji who too is facing inquiry has expressed his intention to join politics if permitted by the family

This is something routine with every candidate who has huge assets to declare. I wonder how the spouse, kin who had no justifiable income got so much assets, and lend to the candidate (dad / spouse / mother). CAs do magic. EC accepts it. Hope, IT accepts it to probe further!

It's our country's creed that offences of the elite are unpunished but the authorities come down heavily on a salaried person or a farmer and these people are allowed to register as candidates for election, we are truly a democracy

All these loans transaction between family members are balancing amount which are also a part of cash transaction for a deal and compensated in books by showing loans from family/friends.

Chowkidar Dr K. Amarendra @AMAREND34128394
Do you believe it ? The affidavit filed by #KartiChidambaram & his wife show they own liabilities worth Rs 17.75 crore. Over 75% of these loans are in the form of personal loans from family members., assets grew to Rs 80.26 crore (2019) from Rs 59.35 crore five years ago.

Vishwanath Krishnamoorthy @vishy972
But like true Chettiars, there is no scope for loan waiver here as in their political avtaar on tax payer money, prayers r always that borrower defaults n underlying assets worth many folds becomes mine interesting when all in family for same outcome flummoxing even the lord

Me-a'Humble'Being @hssling
ECI is directly responsible and guilty for allowing & encouraging dynasty politics to grow especially by not checking democratic processes within registered parties and also by not taking steps to curb it during electoral process!

Kamalesh@Drkamalesh7
A family which loans to each other, pay rent to each other...fight cases in court together.... Hopefully will go to jail together

shankar@aar_shankar
I've still not been able to decipher as to how politicians and their families become millionaires within a short time? All the while claiming clean politics. Any average middle class person doing a job will never witness such wealth in their lifetime

As soon as @RahulGandhi announced Rs 72,000 per family financial aid and @PChidambaram_IN said it is doable, Indians by and large thought to themselves, that with PC in charge, the money could just disappear.

Congress ally and People’s Republican Party (PRP) leader Jaydeep Kawade took a derogatory swipe at Smriti Irani saying that the “size of her bindi depicts the number of husbands she has”.

Jaydeep Kawade said that “Smriti Irani talks about changing the constitution with Nitin Gadkari. However, she wears a bindi and someone said that the size of a woman’s bindi keeps growing as she changes her husband.”

Kawade further went on to add that the Union Textiles minister should remember that changing the Constitution is not as easy as changing husbands.
