Woman gives up million dollar inheritance for true love
In the name of love, daughter of Malaysian tycoon said goodbye to a million dollars.
Angeline Francis Khoo gave up her inheritance along with the many perks that money can buy to marry her long time boyfriend, the Daily Mail reported.
Khoo is the daughter of Kay Peng, Chairman of Malayan United Industries, an investment firm. Forbes reported Peng is one of Malaysia’s richest men with a net worth of $300 million.
He allegedly disapproved of his daughter's relationship with a boy named Jedidiah Francis. They pair met in England in 2008 where they both attended university.
When Angeline told her father of her intentions to marry Francis, a Caribbean-born data scientist, he did not approve, the report revealed.
Her father’s reaction was unsettling and said for her. “I believed Dad’s stance was wrong, so there was no question about what was right. I’ve been fortunate to have that perspective: you can have money and it’s a blessing; it allows you to do things and gives you options, but there are also things that come with it, such as control,” Khoo told the Daily Mail.
She also revealed it was not hard to give up all the things she was accustomed to and learned how to budget.
The couple eventually wed in front of 30 guests at the Pembroke College Chapel in the UK. The wedding she said cost close to £1,500.
