Gearing up for a grand event
The 17th edition of popular international children’s festival — Little Miss & Little Mister United World — is all set to be held from September 24 to September 30 in Greece. Auditions to select Indian participants for the contest is being conducted across the country and currently, a two-day audition drive is happening in Chennai (August 5 and 6).
Valentina Mishra, the national director (India) for the event, shares more insight on this. She says, “I think this is the first time India will be participating in the event. Kids from almost 40 countries participate in this pageant and they’re divided into four categories — mini (4 to 7 years), little (8 to 10 years), preteens (11 to 14 years) and teens (15 to 17 years). As far as the rounds go, there is a national costume round, ocean fantasy round (awareness about saving the water bodies), and the final one will be the crowing round. Other than this, there’s also a personal interview with judges from all over the world.”
Speaking about the audition process which is currently happening in the country, Valentina states, “The response for Chennai auditions has so far been good. We have a lot of entries coming in from different places — even child actors are participating in the audition. We’re looking for kids who’re confident, who can introduce themselves well and more. We’ve, so far, finished auditions in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and a few other places, apart from online
auditions.”
