According to Kollam-based Renju Raju, false roof is opted by many. “Though many are coming forward for this style as a beauty element, it is one of the best options to reduce the room temperature. It stands as a separate body between the concrete roof and the room with an air pocket in between,” he says.

Renju points out that false ceilings help the AC to become more effective in the rooms. “As such equipment consume more electricity to cool the rooms having high temperature, false ceilings can help air conditioners work properly,” he opines.
Normally, false ceilings are made using gypsum sheets. The basic cost of installation begins at around Rs 50 per sq ft. “The texture as well as the colour of the ceiling can be fixed after the installation,” he points out.
