Anamorphic paintings earn record for Vincent Pallissery

Three works were put up in attempt to enter URF Asian Records on February 3.

Thrissur: Vincent Pallissery has won the Universal Record Forum Asian Records for making the most number of anamorphic paintings in different shapes using acrylic on canvas. Three works were put up at the record attempt on February 3 on Rajagiri Public School campus at Kalamassery in Kochi. The medium for reflecting them was a cone, sphere and a cylinder made of steel. Anamorphic painting is a kind of virtual art of which the final product is not on canvas but its reflection on a glaring steel cone.

“I came to know about it and learned it by myself through several experiments. It is a combination of mathematics, art and physics,” he said. The anamorphic works of Mahatma Gandhi, Saint Chavara and football sensation Lionel Messi were put up for the show. The artist says some of his paintings will be on display at the Kuthiramalika Palace Museum near the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Most of them have cylinder made of steel for reflection. In the past nine years after he learnt this method of painting Mr Pallissery created 30 anamorphic works and with more innovations. He's planning Guinness attempt now.
