The colourful Krishnakriti art and cultural festival mesmerised the visitors with lively performances that were held on Friday at State Art Gallery. The festival focussed on bringing the best artistic talent from around India and the world to Hyderabad. It is also known as one of the first contemporary art event to put Hyderabad on the global art map.

An enthralling performance by Anuja Ghosalkar, Laday Anandi was held. It was a documentary theatre performance which is first of its kind in India. It is the story of a female actor, Lady Anandi, who is haunted by the ghost of her great grandfather. Using a series of photographs, anecdotes and fiction, Ghosalkar weaved through time periods to find her great grandfather.

“The performance was based on extensive research and was an exploration of a personal archive. It brought together elements like history, early photography and gender,” shares a guest from the audience. Anuja is an actor, writer and director based in Bangalore. She is also the founder of the theatre group Drama Queen that focusses on personal histories and archives to extend the idea of theatre to create audacious work.
