Mumbai woman shares inspiring story of waking up paralysed from a coma
Mumbai resident Virali Modi posted on Facebook last week about a serious illness that had caused her to slip in a coma ten years ago. Although she did wake up eventually, she had to face more challenges after being paralysed from the waist down.
It was around the time when she went back to the US, where she was residing at the time, that she began to suffer from migraines for a long time. Doctors tested for a number of diseases like meningoencephalitis, meningitis, malaria, and finally diagnosed her with a neurological condition called Transverse Myelitis. She unfortunately went into a coma after doctors administered a spinal tap in order to treat her.
When she was able to regain consciousness, she decided to give life another chance despite her new disability. Virali now lives in Mumbai with her mother and is a writer, motivational speaker, disability rights activist and even actress.
