An insta'nt connection!
#PhotgoraphersofInstagram is one of the most commonly spotted hashtags on Instagram these days. People all over the world use it, both to get recognised, as well as experience other people’s work. This hashtag has created an entire world of photographers and a lot of young photographers in the city are exploring that very world!
Enthusiasts as well as professionals are sticking to this form of showcasing their work instead of the good ol’ blogs that were more commonly used earlier. “I can finally focus on what I love and have been able to make a living out of my passion,” says Partha Nair, a city based photographer who left his job in the hospitality industry after 10 years, to begin his journey with the camera. “I have done photo shoots with many up and coming fashion bloggers and designers. It’s been amazing,” he continues.
Whether it is fashion, nature, abstract or portraits – all kinds of photography are not only welcomed but also viewed by millions. Things like hashtags and tagging allow photographers from every corner of the world to experience each other’s work. “It’s been crazy since I started posting my stuff online,” recalls Kruthika Pillai, a Bengaluru based photographer. “I am a huge Vineeth Vincent and Mallika Dua fan and they were both at the Under 25 Summit last year. After the event, I posted the pictures that I took of them online. Vineeth thanked me for the picture and Mallika actually sent me a DM and asked if I could email a picture I took of her because she absolutely loved it. I was ecstatic,” says Pillai, rather excitedly.
This online community has even allowed photographers some incredible opportunities. “I grew up watching National Geographic and that dream of working for them and photography sort of grew together. Last year, I was able to compete, as a finalist, as part of their ‘Mission Cover Shot 4’ contest,” reveals Prachi Shukla, a Bengalurean photographer. “The next few days were like living a dream. I was able to interact with photographers on an international level. My work was reviewed by the legend himself – Mr. Raghu Rai. That experience is something I can’t even put into words,” she exclaims. “Posting my work online allows me to receive feedback and get better every day. I want to create art through my photography and in that sense, it has been an integral part of my journey,” she concludes.
