Meatless Whoppers to be sold in US

The Impossible Whopper costs only a dollar more than the beef version.

Popular food chain Burger King will start selling its meatless Impossible Whopper in its more than 7,000 locations across the U.S. from August 8. The Impossible Whopper that contains a fake meat patty costs only a dollar more than the beef version, and has 15 per cent less fat and 90 per cent less cholesterol than the standard Whopper. The company claims that customers can’t tell the difference, especially because the burger is designed to ‘bleed’, just like a meat patty.

However, the Impossible Whopper isn’t vegan-friendly as it is topped with mayonnaise. To prove just how similar the two taste, Burger King is also rolling out a ‘taste test’ promotion. Customers can receive both a Whopper and Impossible Whopper for $7 between August 8 and September 1. Burger King isn’t the first fast-food chain to incorporate meatless products in its menu. Other companies like White Castle and Carl’s Jr. sell meatless patty and veggie burger, respectively.
