Canvas'sing for the rain forest

Aim is to familiarise and experience the rain

KOZHIKODE: To feel the rainforest and the rain inside, a group of 18 artists from various states will camp in the Aralam farm on July 9 and 10. The meet titled Varsharanyam (rainforest) will also be joined by three Nepali artists. A group of artists based in Vadakara under Pintorus artists' group is behind the initiative and their motto is 'Colours of Love, Colours for Humanity'.

The group has been in the news for their charity works and they conducted an exhibition in Coimbatore to raise funds for cancer patients in November. The whole proceeds from the exhibition were handed over to the patients. "This is a continuous process. Even now, if more money is needed, we are ready to sell our works and contribute money," said Jagadeesh Palayatt, a team member.

Ravindra Alaraguppi, Muthuraj T. Begur and Darsan from Karnataka, Arunjith Pazhassi, Sreekumar Mavoor, Vimal S. Kollarayil, Rajith K.T., Sunil Kanayi, Sajeevan Palloor, Gineesh Gopinath, Kishor Krishnan from Kerala, T.G. Thayumanavan from Tamil Nadu, Raj Maji from West Bengal and Avaishkar Chandra Pradhan, Vivek Poudyal and Ashish Agrahari from Nepal are the other artists participating in the rain forest camp.

Arunjith Pazhassi is the camp director. "The aim of the camp is to get familiarised with the rainforest and experience the rain. The artists will later transfer impressions into the canvas," said Mr Jagadeesh. "The rain walk will culminate with classes.
