To ticket or not?

In the wake of the newly implemented rule of ticket prices being slashed, youngsters from the city share their views...

Do you get the feeling that you are being fleeced when heading out to watch a movie in a multiplex? The possibility of watching the latest blockbuster at your nearest multiplex at prices that does not hurt your pocket, is now a reality. And we owe our thanks to the Chief Minister who cracked the whip with the intention of giving the Sandalwood industry a much needed boost.

This comes as a respite to many moviegoers as the unreasonable pricing of tickets in multiplexes has been a major woe for them. Talking about the delay in the implementation of the cap, Ashmita Shetty, a student from Christ University , stressed that “This should have been implemented a long time ago. In fact before the release of Baahubali-2 itself and should not have waited till 4 May to implement these new regulations.” She also opined that prices are reasonable and would benefit students with cash crunches.

Aishani Shetty, an actress, welcomed the move and says, “As an audience, I feel that reducing the price to '200 will make it affordable to people across all sections. Also, there is a bias in multiplexes where more shows are given to movies of other languages. There are many good Kannada movies that do not get many shows. Not because of lack of audience. But because most shows are allotted to other languages. So this is a good move and very good for the industry.” She also pointed out that in neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu do not have such language disparity in multiplexes.

A significant reduction in movie piracy could also be a hopeful outcome feels Antony Thomas, a young musician from the city. “People won’t have to download movies illegally as it will become affordable now. They can go watch movies with their family or friends without worrying about high costs,” added the youngster. When asked if he would watching more movies in cinema halls, the young drummer said that he would as often as possible from now.

With the much anticipated and awaited implementation of the price cap now a reality, one will have to wait and see if movie buffs in the city will be thronging multiplexes to catch their favourite flicks more frequently.
