Riding with responsibility

A club brings together people with a passion for riding, and organises various charity programmes.

Club RE Wayanad is a club formed to bring under one umbrella people from different cultures and communities who share one interest in common — riding. It was formed as a club on December 17 last year and had 25 people as its members. It was the idea of Sash K. David and Abhi Plathottathil to form such a club. It not only brings the riders together, but also makes sure that there is a strong bond of friendship among the members. For this purpose, they organise regular rides and charity programmes to cultivate in the members a sense of responsibility towards our society and fellow beings.

Club RE Wayanad also gives space for women riders with a craze for motorcycle riding. The club organises bike rallies propagating messages like the importance of blood donation. They even conducted a bike rally against the night travel ban on NH766. It also organises awareness classes and campaigns for its members and the general public on the importance of responsible riding and usage of proper riding gears. However, what makes the club different from other clubs in the district is the registration process for new members. Any newly registering member is observed for qualities such as responsibility as a rider, character and involvement in any anti social activities over a period of six months and if he/she qualifies the guidelines of the club, the person gets permanent membership.

“Our club is our family; each new member becomes a part of the family through their dedication, and passion for riding,” say the club coordinators, Rijo and Shadin. The registration would cost around '5,000. The club regularly attends the country’s largest motorcycle expo ‘Rider Mania’. Currently, there are over 40 regular members in the club, and there are more who are not always active. The president of the club is Ameer Suhail and secretary is Abhi Plathottathil. The rides organised by the club are coordinated by Shadin Anzail, Ajesh Jose, both of whom are presently abroad, and Ameer Suhail and Rijo Francis John who are active in the club.

Today, Wayanad is witnessing a huge increase in the number of people going on long-distance rides, and Club RE Wayanad, perhaps, has played the vital role of setting an example for everyone.

“The motto of our club is ‘one heart, one love, one ride’, and we stick to it with our heart,” says club president Ameer Suhail.
