Teen loses leg to bone cancer, doesn't give up on ballet
She uses her ankle as a knee joint.
A 14-year-old girl continues to pursue her passion – ballet dancing – despite having just one leg. Gabi Shull was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of nine and had to have a large part of her leg amputated.
Doctors surgically removed Shull’s knee and the portion of her leg below it. However, they did not stop just there. They reattached the thigh to the bottom part after turning it around 180 degrees so that she could still be able to keep her foot. The unusual procedure enabled Shull to control movement when she attaches a metal leg to her thigh.
Shull is a living example of how determination to succeed and pure grit can empower anyone to overcome life’s biggest obstacles.
