Never go and ask a techie in the capital city what they do, instead ask what they wouldn’t do. Many times we have seen them double up as farmers, vendors, volunteers, artistes, travellers, and what not? This summer, an active techie group is there to care too much for society and venture into a socially conscious business — of procuring and providing chemical-free ripe mangoes to the city dwellers.
Vcare, a Bengaluru-based firm, and its techie chief Subeesh S. are rolling out the idea in partnership with an entrepreneur. “We identify a problem, find a solution and implement them in association with entrepreneurs in a bid to eradicate the problem and help small scale entrepreneurs flourish. Mangoes are fetched by the entrepreneur in his own trucks and brought to the selling place here. Traditional methods like storage in straw boxes and fuming are applied for ripening. Carbide is strictly kept at bay,” says Subeesh.
Sources of procurement are Bengaluru, Salem and local markets. In Bengaluru, Vcare has launched another project, where they bring bubble top water cans to residents at reduced prices.
“A 20 litre can produced at lower costs reach a customer with a price tag of Rs40 or Rs 45. We got affiliated to two production plants and the same product is made available at Rs 20,” says Subeesh. He also shares plans to launch a project in Kerala to stop middlemen meddling into government office-related utility services. The market would be open at LMS Compound in Palayam from April 7 to 30.
