Social media reunites elderly couple forced to live apart by social services
The story of a couple forced to live apart after they were deemed as unfit to stay together by social services in UK moved people on the social media as the cruel move saw a backlash from thousands of people who backed their daughter’s petition to reunite the duo who had been married for 70 years.
The family of the elderly couple were finally relieved to find out that Ray and Jessie Lorrison were cleared to stay together by the South Tyneside council after a petition opposing the social services decision, of them not meeting the criteria to stay together, got 21000 signatures on the internet.
The petition was started by their grandson and saw signatures from netizens across the world as their daughter was elated at the news of the couple’s reunion soon. She had earlier called the social services’ decision disgusting and cruel and had described how her father was sitting outside his room waiting for his wife who’s been hospitalised.
Ray has Alzheimer’s and while his wife has collapsed twice, she still wants to stay with her husband and take care of him. Theirs is the second such case of an elderly couple reuniting after their story went viral.
