PayPal halts £2 online donation for dog whose name triggers terror threat

The name caused an alert because the dog is called Isis.

PayPal halted a £2 online donation after a dog’s name triggered a warning, The Sun reported.

The money was supposed to help a rescue dog named Isis. The name however sparked an online terror alert

The 11-year-old golden labrador required medical treatment and so a charity urged people to donate money for it.

"I found out PayPal had got in touch with the woman making the donation and thought she was sending to a terror organisation," Lynda Owens, of Dunroamin K9 Rescue in Worksop, Notts, is quoted as saying by The Sun.

Adding, "It's good that these companies are doing checks but it's funny this set off an alert."

PayPal reportedly scans for all words linked to terror. According to the report, the organisation stated: “We do everything we can to eliminate references that have nothing to do with terrorism, such as pet names, without compromising our compliance obligations.”

With all the confusion, the dog's name has now been changed to Alice.
