Couple forced to live apart after staying together for 70 years

Their tale took a heartbreaking turn when social services said they didn't meet the criteria to stay together.

If two people in love want to live together for entire life, nothing except for death can separate them, or so we thought. It seems that the social services in England are interested in playing the antagonists in the life of a couple who have been going strong for seven decades.

95-year-old Ray Lorrison and 88-year-old Jessie Lorrison had been living together for almost every moment since they met in 1946, but their tale took a heartbreaking turn when social services decided that they did not “meet the criteria” for staying together.

As a result of social services deciding for them, Ray is now in a care home in South Tyneside and Jessie is in hospital, even as their 60-year-old daughter is desperately trying to reunite them. Cheryl didn’t mince words and described the separation as cruel and disgusting.

While the daughter questioned the right of social services to decide for the couple, she mentioned that her father is sitting outside his room waiting for his wife and sleeps in the chair as well.

The couple met after the Second World War, got married soon after and went on to have three children and eight grandchildren. The couple were separated after Jessie collapsed twice while she was living with Ray who has Alzheimer’s.

After she was moved to the hospital, social services decided that she wasn’t fit to stay with ray at the care home. After she is discharged, Jessie will have to stay home and will get visits from a care worker.
