For one 10-year-old pupil, a normal school day is having her lunch with the staff and playing on her own during breaks.

The Year 6 student, who remains anonymous, receives "full curriculum" in a class room that was once packed with children, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The unusual situation came about after plans were made to shut the Ings Community Primary and Nursery School in Skipton, North Yorkshire (UK) in December.

Before the plans, the school had 42 school children in the last term. That is when parents of all but one chose to move their children to different schools to start the new academic year. The school therefore had a legal obligation to stay open for the sake of one child.

The school currently has a full-time teacher, support staff, part-time headmaster and a receptionist.

"I went to this school as did a lot of members of my family. I don’t understand why it should have to close," the father of the child told the Daily Mail. Adding, "I can’t get my daughter into the school of my choosing, so I’m going to home school [her] when she has to finish here."

The school will reportedly close at the end of the term.
