THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In spite of instructions from revenue officials, a neighbour has blocked the thoroughfare of the family of a child who suffers from 90 per cent cerebral palsy.

The child, Fathima Beegum, 10,  daughter of B. Shibu of Kariyil Muriyil, Kazhakoottam,  has just started walking. However, the bouts of epilepsy periodically affect the progress in her development stages.

As Fatima’s mother suffers from wheezing, the  relatives’ help is needed constantly. However,  with their neighbour closing down the one-metre-wide entry to the main road, the family has to take one- and-a-half-kilometre detour to go to the next junction.

“Fathima’s aunt lives just opposite to the said path and she used to rush in during emergency. Now, she has to cross a railway track and walk 1.5 km. This in spite of documents clearly saying  that the path will be open for common use of  nine  houses in the vicinity,” said Shibu.

The plots belonged to a man who gave it to seven children  in 1953.  One of them  directly sold the land to Fathima's grandmother Shyma Beegum whereas the other properties were transferred from people to people.
