Watch: Parents throw big fat desi wedding for gay couple

Their wedding had a Mehndi, Sangeet and even a Pheras ceremony officiated by a Pandit.

An Indian family in Canada has set the perfect example for parents to wholeheartedly accept their LGBT children by hosting a Hindu wedding for their gay son and his partner. Rishi Agarwal was lucky enough to not only have his parents support after coming out of the closet but also enjoy a grand Indian style wedding in the presence of family and loved ones.

Since being openly gay is taboo for most Indians, Rishi’s parents were initially shocked after their son came out to them. But after researching on the subject, they decided to bury their prejudices and embrace their son as he was, according to reports.

Rishi and his partner Daniel Langdon's wedding celebrations comprised all the rituals that are part of a quintessential Hindu wedding: Mehndi, Sangeet and even a Pheras ceremony officiated by a Pandit. Rishi says that even some of his friends were encouraged to come out to their families after seeing how warmly his parents accepted him and Daniel.
