As the clock struck 12, people everywhere brought in 2019 with cheer and happiness. Hyderabadis too embraced the festivity with equal gusto by not only by partying the night away but also taking up resolutions to keep themselves motivated throughout the New Year. We spoke to people from the city to learn of their plans for the year ahead.
Needed a bridge between art, literature and culture
I really can’t say what all Hyderabadis are expecting, but definitely it would be great to make a bridge between art, literature and culture, which helps youngsters come together to develop and share quality thoughts. As an individual, one needs to put an effective effort in developing the creative and innovative potential of young people through non-formal manner of learning in ways relevant to the society. As far as I am concerned, well, for next two years, I will be completely engaged with my PhD, continue doing art and also travel a bit. Looking forward to have and participate in some great art shows.

Dream of sharing stories, reaching more people
I have dreams, not fixed plans. And each moment is a new beginning...nothing terribly specific to be honest. One of the things that matters to me is sensitivity to understanding the capability of those we consider ‘disabled’. Hope many more of us join this journey this year. These are personal and private decisions. Through our art of storytelling, we definitely hope to reach children and adults with the joy and learning possibilities of it. I get many requests from loving audience to hold storytelling sessions; I dream of sharing many more stories in more languages and reach more people. — Deepa Kiran, storyteller
Wish to see the downtrodden get educated and prosper
2019 is the last of the teen years that I will see, so, I will definitely make the most of it. I plan to make sure I travel to as many new places as possible, not only in Hyderabad, but around the world. Lack of education has hindered growth and new possibilities. I wish to see most of the downtrodden sections of the society get educated. Minority funds should eradicate domestic violence and support small scale industries for women to be financially independent.

Will continue our struggle
On behalf of the Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti and National Alliance of People’s Movement , I think this movement is very important in the trans history and struggle for constitutional and human rights. In 2019, we look forward to continuing the struggle, not only in Telangana specifically but across the country. The national protest that happened recently in New Delhi against the Transgender Bill 2016 and its reforms was not an isolated incident but a part of a nationwide fight. — Meera Sanghamitra, educationist
