Qatar Pitches Doha Stopovers as Holiday Add-On for Indian Travellers

From 24-hour city breaks to four-day getaways, Qatar aims to turn transit time into a memorable travel experience.

Doha: Qatar is encouraging Indian travellers to turn long airport layovers into short holidays through its stopover programme, offering stays of up to 96 hours with hotel packages starting from USD 14 per person per night, depending on availability and category.

Designed for passengers transiting through Doha on long-haul flights, the programme allows travellers to explore the country's cultural attractions, desert landscapes and dining experiences without planning a separate vacation.

24 Hours: Museums, Corniche and Souq Waqif

For travellers with a day to spare, Doha offers a compact itinerary centred around its cultural landmarks.

Visitors can begin at the National Museum of Qatar, followed by the Museum of Islamic Art, before heading to the city's waterfront along the Corniche.

Evenings can be spent at Souq Waqif, known for its traditional markets, cafés, restaurants and local shopping.

48 Hours: Desert Adventure

A two-day stopover gives travellers time to venture beyond the city.

The highlight is Khor Al Adaid, also known as the Inland Sea, where towering sand dunes meet the Arabian Gulf. Popular activities include dune bashing, sandboarding, camel rides and desert camp experiences.

Visitors can also unwind at The Pearl-Qatar, a waterfront district known for luxury shopping, marinas and dining.

96 Hours: Culture, Sports and Local Cuisine

Travellers staying up to four days can explore Katara Cultural Village, home to galleries, theatres, restaurants and waterfront attractions.

Other highlights include the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and Msheireb Downtown Doha, which showcase the city's blend of heritage and modern urban development.

Qatar's culinary offerings range from traditional dishes such as machboos, harees and luqaimat to international fine dining, making it suitable for a wide range of travellers.

Transit Becomes Part of the Journey

With Hamad International Airport located close to the city centre, many of Doha's attractions can be reached within a short drive, making even brief stopovers practical.

Qatar says the programme allows travellers to seamlessly add a cultural and leisure experience to an existing international itinerary, turning transit time into a destination in itself.
