Dubai's New Airport Security Rules to Ban Certain Items

Dubai: Travellers flying to Dubai should be aware of newly introduced airport security measures that came into effect this month. Aimed at reinforcing safety protocols and adapting to shifting international aviation standards, these changes could affect what passengers are allowed to carry, particularly in their hand luggage.

A major revision in the guidelines concerns the transportation of medications. While travellers previously had the freedom to carry most prescription and non-prescription drugs in their carry-on bags without issue, updated regulations now impose stricter oversight. Many medications must now be declared in advance or stored in checked luggage, making it essential for passengers with ongoing medical needs to prepare accordingly.

To avoid complications, travellers are strongly advised to bring official prescriptions and to confirm with airline representatives or airport staff whether additional approvals are required. This will help prevent unnecessary delays or confiscation of essential medication during screening.

Devices powered by lithium batteries including everyday items like laptops, smartphones and portable chargers are now more strictly monitored due to safety risks posed by battery malfunctions. Passengers are advised to limit the number of these items in their carry- on bags, ensure they are packed individually, and avoid interconnecting them while in transit.

Failing to comply with these updated protocols could lead to serious inconvenience. Items found to violate the new rules may be confiscated, and in some cases, travellers could be held up at security or even denied boarding. This poses a particular challenge for those with tight schedules or connecting flights.
