Indians want to travel to UK, Europe for next international holiday

Survey reveals rising interest in travel insurance and evolving holiday preferences among Indian travellers.

Allianz Partners, a world leader in B2B2C Insurance and Assistance services, today announced the findings of the Allianz Travel Index 2025. The survey reveals that 47% of Indians planning to travel in 2025 have saved up to 126k INR or more. This is particularly higher among males and higher-income earners. Commissioned to Kantar Consumer Link, the survey involved over 1,000 Indian adults to understand their holiday aspirations and preferences while traveling. The survey highlights that the majority of Indians are likely to purchase travel insurance for their trip, seeking security and peace of mind.

Key findings of the Allianz Travel Index 2025 include:

A quarter (25%) of Indian travellers planning to take a trip in 2025 wish to travel to the UK and Europe for their next international holiday.

18% intend to travel to other Asian countries, and 16% plan to visit Australia, New Zealand, and other Pacific islands.

Cost remains the major barrier for Indians not planning to travel, with 84% mentioning they either do not have the money or find it too expensive.

Entertainment is the most important aspect of travel, followed by preparation for potential luggage loss.

Personal safety concerns 49% of Indians while traveling, with 48% worried about extreme weather events. However, those 50 years and older are less concerned about personal safety and other issues.

42% of higher-income earners are more concerned about flight cancellations and delays.

An overwhelming 85% of Indians intending to travel are likely to purchase travel insurance for their next trip, with this being more pronounced among higher-income earners.

43% of those intending to travel are more likely to purchase insurance from a travel website, while 18% buy directly from the insurance provider.

Those not planning to travel in 2025 are more likely to purchase insurance from a travel agent or forgo purchasing altogether.

61% of Indians purchasing travel insurance do so for security and peace of mind.
