The BARCA Lounger!

Celebrity make-up artist, Vydurya Lokesh tells us about her birthday trip to Barcelona.

This city in Spain is a perfect mix of action, art, scenic views and extravagant nightlife. For water babies, a trip to the famous Barceloneta Beach is a must – spend some time surfing or soaking up the sun for a golden tan. If you’re a lover of dance and music, don’t forget to catch the Flamenco Show at Tablao Flamenco Cordobes Barcelona on the Las Ramblas.

For the love of architecture and history, I strongly recommend spending an evening at the La Sagrada Familia (still under construction), a Roman Catholic Church, an epitome of Gothic architecture designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. His work on the building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The best way to explore the city is by walking around it. The bars are not only easy on the pockets but worth a visit too – try the Cerveceria LA Surena Maremagnum, a port view restaurant offering beer deals throughout. Bar Jardin Barcelona is a perfect terrace tucked away amidst the chaos of the busy Las Ramblas street. If your stomach growls for food, don’t forget to gorge on gorgeous variants of tapas available everywhere.

Party animals who like to meet young travellers from across the world should definitely sign up for pub crawls hosted by local hostels. The Backpacker Pubcrawl is one of the most popular offering free shots, beer, sangria, tapas and pintxos and free nightclub entries – the best way to discover the city’s vibrant nightlife.

Just before you say goodbye to the city, take a cruise (we took the Port De Barcelona) to get a glimpse of the spectacular view of the city line from the sparkling blue waters.
