Three pictures of Nedumudi life taken by a touring American couple
ALAPPUZHA: Nedumudy, a charming village in Kuttanad, has received international recognition with the British newspaper ‘The Guardian’ publishing a few pictures of it on the Guardian Travel’s Instagram account. This comes close on the heels of ‘National Geographic’ describing ‘Kakkathuruthu (‘Island of Crows’) in Vembanad backwaters as a must-visit place. Three pictures of Nedumudi life taken by a touring American couple, Stefani Stoyanof Argüello and Marco Argüello, appeared on the Instagram account on Wednesday.
One picture shows a semi-naked man sitting on a dark brown plastic chair in a ramshackle house and reading a Malayalam newspaper, which evokes the ambiance of a Kuttanadan house. The second reveals Kuttanad’s Vallamkali spirit (boat race). The caption says: ‘In the backwaters of Kerala, boats are usually the only means of transportation between villages. This group of men has just got off the wooden snake boat behind them on the river Pampa in Nedumudy, around 20 km from Alappuzha.” The third picture shows a group of men playing marbles in front of a library in the afternoon. “It was raining on and off between their games, but it didn’t seem to faze them as they played right through it,” the caption says.
