KOLLAM: Shendurney ecotourism project has introduced two new products to excite the visitors. Farm Ecstasy and Elephant Trail enable them to relish the beauty of the wild.
Farm Ecstasy promotes farm tourism making use of its vast plantations along the eastern Kollam. The state-owned Rehabilitation Plantation Ltd (RPL), Oil Palm India Ltd, and Sanjeevani Forest offer a fresh experience on the natural bounties inside their plantations.
“The RPL was started to rehabilitate the Sri Lankan repatriates and is now their settlement. The major highlight of the package is an exclusive chance for the tourists to enjoy the ethnic Lankan art forms, including the ‘devil dance’ inside the RPL,” Shendurney wildlife warden A. Shanavas told DC.
The visitors will also take a detour to other favourite spots including the Punalur hanging bridge, Kallamkunnu dam view, and the Ottakkal look-out for an affordable Rs 875 per head.
In Elephant Trail package, the department has incorporated a jungle safari in a bus, boat safari, and trekking. It will take them deep inside the Shendurney forests in three sessions providing an opportunity to enjoy the wildness.
The jungle safari in a bus will give the opportunity to enjoy the ‘Vilakkumaram’ and the ‘Myristica swamps’ deep inside the forests.
The rare Myristica trees are primitive flowering plants that grow in swamps with the help of thick stilt roots found inside the Shendurney forests. Over 20 kilometres inside the woods, these swamps are the major attractions of the trip which also promises sights of wild animals and waterfalls.
The tourists will also be offered boating as part of the package, taking them far inside the reservoir of Thenmala dam. The package comes at '1,000 per head. Both the packages that will start from 9 am to 4 pm will have food items including lunch and snacks.
