Citizens’ beloved Charminar turns 444

Hyderabad: Charminar turned 444 years on Sunday according to the Hijri calendar. Netizens showered their love for the iconic monument on the anniversary.

It is believed that on the date 1/1/1000 of the Hijri calendar, the first Moharram, the monument was thrown open to the public. The date on July 31 as per the Hijri calendar was 1st Mohram Hajjah 1444.

Many netizens tweeted pictures of the monument taken from different angles. UK Deputy High Commissioner for AP and Telangana Dr Andrew Fleming posted multiple photos of portions of the monument and tweeted: “My tribute to #Charminar at 444 based on visits over the past 5 years. #HappeningHyderabad.”

Another netizen tweeted her appreciation of the dessert ‘Shahdood Malai,’ a popular dish available near the monument. The group Deccan Archive organised a photo exhibition at the monument to mark the occasion.
