Kerala: Dream wedding for orphan girl
KOZHIKODE: It was a dream-like wedding for Parameshwari, an orphan and inmate of Vellimadukunnu Mahila Mandiram, on Thursday. She was ‘christened’ (or so she was called by the groom’s family) Swapna before entering the life of Sandeep, from Maniyoor, Vadakara. Huge flexes and banners were erected on the premises of Payyoli Keezhoor Siva temple, where the wedding was solemnised.
The groom's party welcomed the bride, accompanied by 50 plus inmates and staff of the Mahila Mandiram and other homes in their Vellimadukunnu complex with traditional ‘Chendamelam’. Sandeep’s friends created a beautiful atmosphere for ‘Swapna’. Some of them even opened up their wish to marry from the homes.
Sandeep, a BEd graduate who works as a painter, approached the home with the intention of marrying an orphan. Parameshwari reached the children’s home first and was later shifted to Mahila Mandiram when she was matured.
The 23-year-old girl completed a computer course after Plus Two. Social justice department gave her '1 lakh while Uralungal Service Society and commissioner’s office gave one gold sovereign each. SBT threw a reception for the bride and many good samaritans came forward to sponsor her wedding dress, make-up, etc.
