Here's what a man with a PhD in threesomes has to say about sex

Scoats found that while more men are enthusiastic about threesomes, many of them were left disappointed after the experience.

People across the world are exploring more when it comes to sex with couples getting adventurous and singles having more platforms to meet different people. While people are more open about their fetishes, having more than one partner is also widely discussed among young people.

While many may have a fantasy around sexual encounters with more than one person at a time, one man was surprised to find that threesomes are discussed in academic literature. In order to expand his knowledge and start a conversation, Dr Ryan Scoats decided to do a PhD on the subject.

He found that porn and relationships which don’t adhere to the monogamous norm in society have helped normalise threesomes. Studies reveal that while a quarter of men have had such encounters, only eight percent women experienced it and around 82 percent of men along with 31 percent women were interested in threesomes.

Although he wasn’t surprised by young people being more enthusiastic about being in bed with more than one partner, he was astonished at finding 15, 16 and 17 year olds who had experienced the same. The main reason for men to indulge in threesomes was to get experience and tell others that they had one, but for women reasons were different including exploring their sexuality, making their partner happy and taking the opportunity to sleep with a specific person.

Even as men are more willing to go for threesomes, Scoats found that they were largely disappointed thinking that they weren’t as good as they expected. On the other end women felt they were much better than how they had thought.

Scoats also discovered that homophobia gradually decreasing has meant that more men are comfortable having sex in the presence of another person of the same sex. He said many men saw it as a bonding experience.
