8 reasons why you're not in the mood for sex

Growing number of women say they experience low sexual desire. Find out why.

A recent study has found a growing number of women say they experience low sexual desire.

Global Study of Sexual Attitudes and Behaviors (GSSAB) found that 26 to 43% of women say the need for sex has not been high on their list of late.

In a report by the Healthista, physician Rachel Carlton Abrams explains some of the reasons that could be an issue.

1. Your family suppressed sexuality: If you were brought up in a very conservative or religious household, you might view sex as something to fear or be bad and be less inclined to explore it. Notions of sexuality in our formative years can be challenging to shake.

2. Issues with body image: If you feel like you don't fit into the idea of sexy, then feeling the need to perform can he difficult. However, being overweight does not not mean you can't be sexual. Research has found that overweight women have just as much sexual libido as any other women.

3. Bad experience with sex: Trauma can affect the body. Sexual trauma can shut down sensation in women's genitals.

4. Sex can be painful: Hormonal changes of menopause are the most common reason for pain with intercourse. Chemotherapy or radiation for cancer treatment is also a contributing factor.

5. Not enough testosterone: Studies have found testosterone is a big driving force of libido in women. It increases desire for sexual behavior.

6. Medical issues: Health issues impact your want or need for sex. Some of them are chronic disease, thyroid malfunction, chronic pain and cancer.

7 Stress and hectic schedule: Sometimes the biggest issue is no time. However, experts say there are benefits to having a healthy sex life. It can help reduce illness and depression.

8 No trust: Despite popular belief, fighting does not make your sex life better. Trust all you need for a healthy sex life.
