'Sex roulette' parties: One person secretly HIV positive, condoms not allowed
Sex roulette parties where one person is secretly HIV positive and safe sex is not allowed are increasingly becoming commonplace, doctors have warned. These parties are usually attended by gay men who like to experience the ‘thrill’ of not knowing whether they will be infected or not.
The attendees of such parties often take anti-viral drugs to reduce risk of transmission, say Spanish doctors who are tracking the trend. Dr. Joseph Mallolas of Hospital Clinic Barcelona even goes so far as to say that the parties are a sign that people have ‘lost respect’ for HIV, according to a report by el Periodico. “There is everything: sex roulette parties, or sex parties you can only attend if you already have HIV,” he describes.
Dr. Mallolas adds that some of these sex parties are also known as ‘blue’ parties because attendees take anti-viral medication to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus. “Going to sex roulette parties is about the risk, partygoers think the higher the risk, the stronger the thrill,” explains psychosexual therapist Kate Morley, according to HelloU. She says that thrill-seekers crave for the intense high from combining orgasm with high adrenaline.
