Having sex without a condom increases vaginal infection risk for women

While most prefer safe sex, risky sexual practices are a worrying fetish on the rise among young people.

Sex is a priority for young people in a time when social media and dating apps have made it extremely simple for people to meet more partners increasing chances of them getting action. But while most do prioritise safe sex, risky sexual practices or going without condoms seems to be a new fetish on the rise.

This trend is worrying not only for the risks of HIV and lack of contraception, but sex without a condom can actually make women vulnerable to vaginal infections. A particular strain of bacteria preventing infections is present in higher proportions in the vagina, but a study reveals that having sex without condoms disturbs the balance.

Women with higher amount of L. crispatus strain are also known to be safer from all infections which include HIV. Sex with new partners also causes a higher risk of vaginal infections.

Keeping the penis and the foreskin area in particular clean is also key to make sure that a woman’s vagina remains infection free apart from wearing a condom.
