Watch: Learn about the evolution of the penis size
You’d be glad to know that even though you may be a couple of inches more or less than the average penis size, there are chances that you’re still more well-endowed than others in the animal kingdom. Evolutionary biologist, Darren Curnoe, explains in the latest installment of his video series titled ‘How Did We Get Here?’ that how the human penis has been shaped to be larger than the male organs of primates like the chimpanzee or the gorilla because of the evolutionary process.
In the video, Curnoe talks about how variations in penis sizes are due to evolutionary pressures connected to reproduction. He says that the size of a creature’s genitalia is determined by the level of competition involved in impregnating females.
For example, gorillas’ social groups assign one alpha male who then gets to mate with as many females as he wants. This is the reason why gorillas are more likely to have small penises and small testicles than human males because of the absence of competition. Moreover, since human females did not make themselves readily available like female chimpanzees, the human penis had to be large in size to look more appealing.
