Do you feel like your love life is lacking spark? In a recent study, it was found that 70 per cent of Australian women aged between 40-65 years old have a low sex drive and men too feel lacklustre and less connected to their partners. The study further revealed that one in five men experience a loss in libido.
Speaking to MailOnline, Dr Mike Pukanic, founder of Fontanella's Libido Supplement, said while a mismatch in sexual desire can be a problem for some, once the situation is remedied this can 'yield some fantastic relationship benefits.'
Here are ways to boost libido.
Give your self-confidence a boost: Pressures of modern living mean it can be hard to find time to take care of oneself. Poor self-image can have a major impact on your sex life as this can influence how comfortable you feel not just with yourself but also with your partner.
To boost your confidence, one has to make a conscious effort to put more focus on the things that they love about themselves. Exercise can be a sure-fire confidence booster because not only can it help improve how we look and feel, physical activity can also produce endorphins which can lead to the release of sex hormones to help get you in the mood.
Lower your stress levels: If you are feeling highly stressed or anxious this can have a detrimental effect on your sex life. Cortisol is one of the hormones produced by feelings of stress, which in turn has a negative impact on sex drive. If stress is a problem, finding ways to lower this can make a difference. One should meditate, do yoga, engage in breathing exercises, relaxing walks and listen to calming music.
Eat libido-boosting foods: Oysters are one of the main foods one can eat to increase libido. They're loaded with zinc - a mineral that helps boost testosterone in both men and women. Lust-inducing foods include watermelon, chocolate, avocados and nuts, particularly walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts
Increase your sex life with extra sleep: If you're not getting enough sleep, chances are you will find your desire dwindling. A study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine from 2015 found just one extra hour of sleep each night can increase the chances that a woman will have sex with her partner by 14 percent.
Sex drive boosting supplements: There are a range of natural supplements which can help boost a flagging libido. If there are other problems affecting performance such as a stress, anxiety or tiredness these can be overcome with adaptogens including Ginseng, maca or Rhodiola....
