If scientific research is to be believed, a wife’s personality plays a crucial role in a couple’s sex life. A couple that has a woman who is happy, laid back and curious about what life has to offer is more likely to have a busier sex life. Interestingly, a husband’s mood does not have that much of an influence on how often a couple engages in sex, the study claims.
Researchers surveyed around 278 newlywed heterosexual couples about their sexual activity during a period of two weeks as part of the study. It was found that on an average, the couples had sex three to four times over the 14 days and that frequency of sex was dependent on the wives’ agreeableness and openness. The survey questions were based a personality test that gauged five traits: 1) openness to experience, 2) conscientiousness, 3) extroversion, 4) agreeableness, and 5) neuroticism.
The survey conducted by the Florida State University discovered that although previous research pointed towards men as more likely to initiate sex, it was the women’s, rather than men’s, personality that predicted the probability of sex in relationships. However, researchers caution that the results would have been affected by the fact that the couples surveyed were still in the honeymoon phase, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
