Visakhapatnam: Male Bengal tiger for zoo
Visakhapatnam: With the number of male Bengal tigers reaching zero, the zoo authorities have sent a proposal to Mysore zoo for exchange of wild dogs for a male Royal Bengal tiger.
The zoo has two female Bengal tigers. By bringing in a male Bengal tiger, they plan to increase the number of tigers. These apart, the zoo park has two Asian male and three female white tigers.
“Mysore zoo has surplus male Bengal tigers and they want to have wild dogs. So, we have sent a proposal for exchange of a male tiger for wild dogs on Friday. It is better to have two male and three female species,” said zoo curator B. Vijaya Kumar.
However, the exchange was possible only with the nod of the Central Zoo Authority, the curator said. The number of male Bengal tigers in the zoo has declined drastically from 2007.
On the other hand, the Animal Rescue Centre had once 32 Asian lions and 30 Asian tigers, but the number has come down to 10 and 3 respectively.
