Showers cool Chennai on Sunday evening
Chennai: Sudden showers in the city on Sunday evening following a cloudy day brought respite to residents who had been suffering harsh temperatures in the past two days. The rain which lasted only about an hour was heavy. According to data from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Meenambakkam and Nungambakkam recorded 23mm and 15mm till 8.30pm on Sunday. Explaining the rainfall activity, weather blogger K Srikanth said, “North Tamil Nadu is in an east-west shear zone, wherein winds from west to south and east to north converge and cause an instability, which trigger thunderstorms.”
Weather experts also predict a good chance of rainfall in the Northern Tamil Nadu districts. The pattern of the rainfall would mostly be confined to late afternoons.
The temperatures also saw a dip as the maximum temperatures at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam were recorded at 31.7 and 31.5 degrees respectively.
