Earth Day Network's mission: A tree for every human
Bengaluru: As part of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day celebrations this year, the Earth Day Network has set a goal of planting over 7.8 billion trees over the next five years.
The Earth Day Network, which is the world’s largest environmental movement working in 197 countries to build environmental democracy, has declared ‘Trees for the Earth’ as the theme for this year.
The Earth Day Network says, “Trees reverse the impacts of land degradation. They provide food, energy, and income. They help communities achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability. They filter the air and help stave off the effects of climate change both globally and locally. The longer the trees/forests grow and stay in place, the more powerful these protections become.”
