Hyderabad: 2,000 schools to spread green message

The project is planned and executed jointly by GHMC and ITC.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will soon get Wellbeing Out of Waste (WOW) Clubs to encourage proper waste disposal amongst students. The project is planned and executed jointly by GHMC and ITC.

Apart of the project, the organisers have selected 2,000 schools for spreading the green message by engaging students as Bala Swachhagrahis.

Last year, 1,500 schools were roped in for the project to channel dry paper waste, which brought upto 700 tonnes of paper for recycling. This saved 15,400 trees from felling for pulp to manufacture paper, and also saved 18,200 kilo litres of water, and 3,15,000 units of energy, 770 cubic metres of landfill and reduction of carbon dioxide.

A similar project with ITC will be started with WOW clubs, which will be inaugurated on July 18 by minister K.T. Rama Rao.
