Kannur welcomes Kalolsavam guests
Kannur: Kannur welcomed participants of the 57th Kerala State School Kalolsavam on Sunday with cloth shawls and bags keeping the spirit of ‘Green Kalolsavam’. The first team to arrive was existing champions and neighbours, Kozhikode district.
Ports minister Kadannappally Ramachandran, P.K. Sreemathy MP and collector Mir Mohammed Ali received them at Kannur railway station.
The ‘panchavadyam’ for the welcoming session was performed by students of Chovva Higher Secondary School. The guests said they were also happy to be part of the green Kalolsavam.
At the mess hall, led by Pazhayidam Mohanan Namboothiri, the traditional lighting of the stove (Palukachal) was held on Sunday. The mess for nearly 40,000 people was ready by Sunday, with food items brought from different parts of the district. Food committee chairman T.V. Rajesh MLA inaugurated the ‘fresh kitchen’.
More food collected from various sub-districts will also reach in the next two days, said the MLA. Mayor E.P. Latha, councillors and other officials attended the event.
The government had allotted '25 lakh for the food, and the committee expects to raise the rest with public support.
