Kerala:125-year-old Neem tree gets rejuvenated
Kottayam: A 125-year-old neem tree is getting treated for a disease causing it slanting over the house of an Ayurveda physician in Thodupuzha. The ‘Vrikshayurveda’ rejuvenation treatment by the family of Dr N. Satheesh Kumar began last Sunday, and it will continue for six months. The procedure will check the progressive degeneration of the tree owing to an infection.
“So as to counter degeneration, we are adopting the re-granulation of the plant tissues," Dr Kumar, who is the chief physician at the Dhanwanthari Vaidyasala in Thodupuzha, told DC.
K. Binu, an expert in the treatment of trees infected with degenerative diseases, is heading the procedure comprising stuffing of the medicine filled mixtures including cow milk and dung, hay powder, ghee and ordinary sand.
These mixtures will be thoroughly mixed, applied and bandaged in the damaged areas of the trees and its cavities. "The treatment will expand the lifespan of the tree by another 100 years," he said.
