Every pet owner wants his pooch to be well-groomed and obedient. This is where training comes in handy. Pet training is an art that requires utmost patience. In an effort to spread awareness about how to train pets and provide insightful information regarding the various steps required, a dog training seminar will be held in Thrissur today.
Organised by Reward K9 Dog Training Centre, the seminar will be handled by internationally-acclaimed dog trainer Anja Van De Zande Gerritsen.
Avinash, owner of the of the training centre and a popular dog trainer, says, “I usually organise training seminars and sessions for trainers and dogs. In order to introduce positive reinforcement, which means training dogs without hurting them, we are bringing in Anja from the Netherlands. The dogs will not be hurt physically nor will they be scolded.”
He adds, “This is a two-day seminar and is mainly for beginners. This will include the fundamental rules of training, behavior shaping, fixing problems and obedience. The seminar is both practical and theoretical. Some owners will bring their own pets, otherwise, we also have untrained dogs here at the centre. ”
Avinash goes onto explain. “We might have to use different systems for different dogs, but these will all be positive methods. The approach might be different. Communication is the key as interaction is not all that quickly possible with some dogs. The seminar will mainly focus on how to communicate with dogs. Any dog with any personality can be trained positively,” he says.
Dogs belonging to any age category can be trained according to Avinash. “It’s just that they must be mentally and physically fit to undergo training. Even a 10-year-old dog can be trained, but like I said it has to be fit,” he adds.
