Tamil Nadu: Blue Cross of India files complaint against varsity, municipality

Union minister Maneka Gandhi came across the video and alerted the Blue Cross personnel who filed a police complaint.

Chennai: Blue Cross of India on Tuesday filed a police complaint against a private university near Vandalur and Tambaram municipality officials alleging illegal capture of dogs and suspected killing by municipality officials.

The Thalambur police have acknowledged the complaint by Blue Cross general manager Dawn Williams and have issued a community service register (CSR).
The issue was brought to light after a video of two Tambaram municipality workers catching a dog on university campus went viral on social media. Union minister Maneka Gandhi came across the video and alerted the Blue Cross personnel who filed a police complaint.

A senior official with Tambaram municipality said that their office has received communication from the Union minister’s office and they have terminated the services of the two contract workers seen in the video. “Further, we have also issued memos to two of our staff for their involvement,” an official told DC. The university is not in the Tambaram municipality limits and the workers went out of their way to catch the stray dogs, about 11 of them on the campus. Further investigations are on.
