Calicut University to open touch and feel' garden
Kozhikode: As a gift to the blind students of the Calicut University, the authorities will open a first of its kind garden exclusively for them.
The 'Touch and Feel Garden' gives them an opportunity to take a peaceful walk on the long pathways surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers and feel the aroma.
Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan will open the garden comprising all aromatic plants, including herbs, spices and vegetables, on Wednesday.
All the dignitaries during the inaugural function will blindfold to experience its beauty as seen by the visually impaired.
The authorities have placed the scientific and common names and other descriptions on Braille and audio at all the 65 plants.
By touching the name board with an audio pen, the person can listen to the description of the particular plant and its flower.
"We have designed the garden in such a way that a visually impaired person can easily do everything here without the help of anyone," said CU vice-chancellor K.
Muhammed Basheer. The garden was constructed in a year with the Central funding of Rs 17 lakh.
