Now, ballads to inspire kids to go green
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: J. Rajasekaran, veteran rockstar and environmentalist says the best way to strengthen people to stand for a cause is to try ways to make them conscious about such issues. “People, regardless of any scale, always love listening to stories and singing easy tunes. Getting the message through the medium of art would inspire people to respond effectively,” he said.
Rajasekaran who hails from Madurai is also noted for his role as co-director in the Vaigai River Restoration Pageant (VRRP). The project aims to rejuvenate the polluted river and to formulate effective steps to avoid further pollution, with the local stakeholders playing a key role. Speaking to DC, Rajasekaran asserted that environment protection and development, if taken positively, could go hand-in-hand.
“Using renewable sources of energy and finding alternative ways to end sand mining should be the priority. This will help protect environment to a great extent,” he said. The artist cum go-green advocate had recently made a presentation on the ongoing VRRP project during the environment day celebrations at Bhavishya school, Kundamankadavu.
The musical performance saw the children, parents and students singing and the taking pledge to take up protection and rejuvenation of Karamana river. “It was gratifying to see the children recognising the cause and raising hands to protect their own river,” said Rajasekaran. The school authorities along with the help of local stakeholders are holding preliminary discussions on adopting and protecting one kilometre each on either sides of the river.
