For 10-year-old Julia, the thing that makes her puppy Walter the perfect companion for her is that apart from being loveable and playful, he was also born deaf – just like her. They get along so well that Julia is now also teaching her pet sign language

The little white canine was adopted at the age of seven months by Julia and her mother Chrissy from an animal rescue shelter. Chrissy believes that since both her daughter and her dog were born deaf, they react to their environment in ways that are strikingly similar. “When I first held Julia, since she couldn’t really hear my voice, she would smell my neck,’ Chrissy says in a video interview. “And when I first held Walter, he did almost the same exact thing.”
