Fur your little mutts only

Those loyal pets get breathers in the form of pet-friendly zones and cafes across the city, leaving their owners smiling from ear to ear.

Weekends for many are all about about letting your hair down and frolicking. But in a refreshing trend of sorts, a lot of young adults in town are making conscious efforts to indulge their creative downtime by checking in at only fur friendly zones — to ensure their furry mates don’t miss out on the fun, either.

Milking the trend and making arrangements to fit the bill — An abrupt mushrooming of pet cafes, bookstores and parks is being noted in the city. Pet lovers in town give us inputs....

"Last week, I was glad to be able to enjoy a beer and a pizza with my two girls (Rottweiler and Beagle) lounging at my feet. The idea of eating out or checking in at a place becomes more appealing when your pets are given the freedom to move about and feel at home. Fortunately, the city has become more accommodating of pets, as most places clearly have demarcations like 'pet friendly zones' which make things so much easier for pet owners. With an impressive number of owners with rescue pets, its high time we have more such initiatives as personally, seeing your pets relax is relaxing in itself!,” opines Alysha Lobo, a marketing manager.

However, being a pet parent on the go comes with enormous responsibility. She adds,”While it's easier to take a breather seeing your pets around you, ensure you scoop the poop, clean the water bowls and ensure the treats are thrown into the bin."

Echoing along similar lines, Madhurima Bhattacharjee, a 33-year-old fashion designer, believes the idea is a brilliant deal if only pet owners take due ownership. “While most pets have great manners, remember, non pet friendly patrons may be around too! Also, just because the staff is trained to take care of your pets, do not expect them to take charge. This is probably a rule that needs to be stuck on the walls!”

Echoing similar lines, Ankeita Saha, an advertising professional feels its the venue that determines it all. “Being a cleanliness freak, I unleash my Cocker Spaniel only at places exclusively made for pets. When I check in at restaurants, they are always within my reach. But, when I visited this dog only Whitefield address, I let them roll in the mud while I glugged down an espresso,” she quips.

With pet welfare apps, interesting pet events and animal-friendly haunts on the rise; the concept has finally arrived. “Bengaluru roughly houses about 60 percent of pet owners. So, the idea is truly reflective of the city’s affable vibe.

Convenience apart, let’s not forget that animals have a therapeutic effect. They can lift up your spirits and help you unwind more easily on a stressful day. This is also a healthy way to help shape up your perspective of animals and how they ought to be treated. On a wider note, such concepts spread tolerance, inspiring ethical treatment towards animals,” says Ashok Chintala, a pet photographer, in conclusion.
