Many firms vying for waste to energy projects in Bengaluru

A number of waste processing companies made a presentation to the Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George on Tuesday.

BENGALURU: A number of waste processing companies made a presentation to the Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George on Tuesday and said that these projects will turn Bengaluru into a ‘no waste’ city. Through their presentations, companies explained that waste can be used as raw material to generate power and the solid waste generated in the city had sufficient calorific value to produce energy.

A Bengaluru based company Wescopower Generation Ltd representative said Korean technology will be used to generate power. The plant will have a capacity to process 2,500 metric tonnes of waste and produce 18 MW of power on a daily basis. Another company Movers India Private Ltd representative said gasification technology uses low calorific and high calorific value waste, including animal waste such as meat.

The representative of Zonta, which is now installing a waste to energy plant in Pallavaram near Chennai, said his company would use controlled combustion technology for converting the solid waste to energy. A multinational company NEG explained that its plant had the capacity to convert 600 tonnes of garbage to generate 12 MW power.

A number of other companies including Ecoman, D&S Renergies Private Limited, Eleplant Energy Private Limited, Innovision Engineers Private Limited, Ramky Energy and Environment Limited, Indium Projects Private Limited, ILP, MSGP, Orgreen, Green Elephant and Jindal ITF gave their presentations to the screening committee. The expert Committee members were also present during the presentation.
