Pet adoption made easy!

This free charitable fundraiser is taking place at an animal hospital in Koramangala and enables pet lovers to take home rescued strays.

Pet adoptions are on the rise in Bengaluru, and the growing pro-activeness towards rescuing strays is the way forward. Thinking along similar lines, a bunch of city youngsters have come together to put up Pawparazzi Pet adoption drive — a free charitable fundraiser, aimed at creating a platform to bring fosters and adopters under one roof to take home rescued strays. In a candid chat with the core committee behind this, we find out more...

“People are willing to open their home and heart to homeless urban strays than ever. Youngsters were never this ready to take home an abandoned paw. So, we’re convinced this concept will work because it allows for direct interaction as opposed to virtual posts (that are usually the norm for adoption) and also a better understanding of both the adopters needs (lifestyle and requirements etc) and the animals behaviour — and of course, finding a match,” begins Sanjana Jayadev, one of the main volunteers.

The fundraiser, organised by FluffyNut and Enablers United, entails no registration fee, has been strategically organised to have pet lovers grooving to a fun time, as they contribute towards a social cause. “We are a bunch of like-minded people when it came to animal welfare so we got together in order to help more animals. But, the whole idea is to make it a fun event for people and animals comprising of various stalls, an Indie fashion show (to promote the Indian breed), an open mic jam, and a food truck with yummy food,” shares Arundhati. Enthusing how the activity offers more practice ways to rescue strays, Roshan Muralidharan, a young MNC professional adds, "With the growing number of abandoned pets and foster parents, this is the most practical way of getting the pets home. We connect the foster parent and the adopters and make sure that both of them are on agreeable terms and hence we have a good success rate.”

Vouching by similar views, Arundathi Somaiah, a student volunteer who is doing her masters in social work at St. Joseph’s College, believes its about time people take charge. “Every adoption that happens gives room for another animal to be saved. So, what we’re trying is to reduce the load on shelters and foster parents so that shelters have a lesser burden and the animal gets individual attention,” she says.

Concluding how sharing responsibilities lightens the load on everyone, hence making a social cause feasible; Saad Pasha, a young city-based freelance Landscape designer signs off by stating, “It takes a great deal of team work and coordination to run an event like this. It's a shared responsibility to help get street animals adopted so that more animals could be fostered, hence creating a healthy chain. By adopting, you help fight against backyard breeders and there cruelty to animals. Remember #loveislove.”This free event will take place on November 5, between 11 am to 5 pm at Cartman Animal Hospital, Koramangala.
